I coordinated and managed The Offbeat Blog, writing all of the media recommendations, organizing all other blog postings, and editing every piece to fit brand standards.
Under my tutelage, from Fall 2016-Spring 2017, the blog had three regular weekly posts: Tuesday media recommendations, Thursday feature blogs from staff, and Sunday interviews. My work here shows my strengths in creativity and organization. My strengths were combined to create an effective blog communications strategy for The Offbeat literary magazine, and show my ability to implement this coordination in anything I work on.

I worked on the Fall version of The Offbeat Vol. 17 as a copyeditor, communications manager, production team member, and writer. I edited and conducted author communications with several authors as well as created the agenda and did a fair amount of meeting organization. As communications manager, I coordinated the blog for the literary journal, wrote for the blog, and kept a schedule for managing meetings, submission discussion, and the blog. I also was a major contributor in writing, editing, and finalizing our editor’s notes. As the communications manager for Fall, I supervised and tweeted for the Twitter account.
My work on The Offbeat shows not only my breadth of skills, but also my flexibility to learn and grow for a client's needs. "Stephanie Marceau has been an invaluable member of The Offbeat Literary Journal staff. Not only has she handled—and very well, I might add—the regular work of submissions reading, editing, and layout, she managed our editorial meetings and single-handled implemented and oversaw our entire social media strategy during her time with us. In particular, she created and managed a regular blog series—an element of outreach entirely new to our engagement efforts. She solicited writers and scheduled the series of posts with care to topic and timing, succeeding not only in featuring a wide range of topics—from media recommendations to humor pieces to staff and contributor interviews—but also leading us to an exponential increase in followers, readers, and customers. For the first time in our publication’s history, we now have frequent interactions with an ever-growing online following, and our sales and increased visibility prove the value of her efforts. Plus, she even wrote a few posts herself. Check her out! It’ll be more than worth your time." --Curtis VanDonkelaar, Assistant Professor and Editor/The Offbeat While I worked for the Michigan State University Residential Housing Services (RHS) Sustainability Department, I did quite a bit of editing for the team. This is an example of a blog post that I edited for my co-worker about a mayonnaise disaster that our department helped solve.
Doing this work was vital to my growth as an editor, using my skills to recognize and evaluate audience needs as well as clean up language to be its most effective. It also gave me experience of communicating and cooperating with another writer. Unfortunately, the post was deleted by MSU during a website overhaul. "Stephanie is a phenomenal editor/writer. She has edited multiple articles for me that end up far better than my original work. If you are looking for someone to make you look good then Stephanie is a must hire. Not only is she a good worker but she is a great personality to have as a part of a team. Her endless positivity will benefit whatever group she is a part of. I strongly recommend Stephanie for any editing you may need." -Cole Gude, MSU RHS Sustainability Officer |
